NLP Training and Techniques: Using Neuro Linguistic Programming (2022)

I would like to give you some insights into NLP training & techniques, in particular how to use neuro linguistic programming to change your life.

Founded in the 1970’s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, NLP is an approach to communication and personal development that explores how we think and feel, and analyzes the internal languagepatterns that we use to reflect our experiences.

It's called neuro linguistic programming because it combines three words. The word “neuro” represents our nervous system, the word “linguistic” stands for our language, and the word, “programming” represents the actions that we take in order to achieve specific results.

One of the most powerful skills that you can learn in life is the ability to control your emotional responses to people and your environment. Your capacity to effectively do so directly impacts the extent to which you achieve your goals.

Are you ready to master your life? NLP training & techniques will allow you to do so.

The NLP approach was developed out of the modeling of human behaviours. Richard Bandler and John Grinder watched and observed the behaviours of successful psychotherapists, and broke down the language and the processes that they used, in order to create change in people.

The concept of modeling denotes that if someone is getting a result that you desire, you can achieve the same result if you break down and model one’s language patterns, beliefs, and behaviours. That is essentially what you are doing when you are consuming my content; you are modeling the success strategies that I have used in my life and applying it in your own.

I was first introduced to the world of NLP when I was 17 years old. I used to be very shy and I lacked self-esteem and social skills. When I was introduced to the work of Paul McKenna and Tony Robbins, who both utilized NLP practices in their work, my interest in the approach grew even stronger.

NLP principles & techniques have helped get me get into better shape, build multiple businesses, attract an amazing partner, and overcome limiting beliefs and fears, to name a few things.

A few years ago I decided to take things to the next level, and I went through a 9-day NLP practitioner training program, which taught me how to use neuro linguistic programming to change my life. NLP has made a big difference with regards to how I coach my clients, and in how I move throughout my life.

Neuro Linguistic Programming Principles

There are multiple NLP principles and techniques, but I would like to share 3 of them with you:

1. The map is not the territory

As human beings, we don’t respond to reality. Rather, we respond to our internalized map of reality, because we all have different perceptions and meanings of people and the world at large. What you see on the surface isn’t necessarily the reality of the situation.

2. Anchoring

An anchor is an association that elicits a certain emotion within you. We can elicit any emotion we desire by changing how we represent the world. For example, if I wanted you to experience happiness, I could elicit that emotion within you by saying to you, “Do you remember a time in your life when you experienced happiness?”

(Video) NLP Training & Techniques: How To Use Neuro Linguistic Programming To Change Your Life

By asking it, you have to remember this experience, which brings you back to thatemotional state. You can then anchor that emotion to anything that you desire. The key to anchoring is making sure that at the peak of your emotional intensity you engage in a gesture, like pumping your fist or clapping your hands.

Why? When you do, that feeling of happiness will get linked to the unique gesture that you engage in. If you engage in anchoring on a consistent basis, it will become programmed into your mind.

3. Reframing

This involves taking the frame and turning it, so that you change the way that you look at it. In the words of Wayne Dyer, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

For example, let’s say that someone yelled at you when you were a child, and from that experience, you associated yelling to meaning you aren’t good enough. That meaning is based on the perception or frame that you are making of that experience.

What would happen if you viewed that experience asa gift? Because that person yelled at you, maybe it forced you to grow, making you less reactive and stronger.

NLP Sensory Modalities

NLP believes that we process information, learn, and experience the world via three distinct sensory modalities, otherwise known as representational systems – visual (see), auditory (hear), kinesthetic (feel). Although we use all of our senses, depending on the circumstances, we may focus on one modality more than the other.

Research has found that there are certain emotions or behaviours that will empower or disempower you, based on an understanding of these sensory modalities.

(Video) 10 NLP Techniques That Can Change Your Life (Neuro Linguistic Programming)

For example, let’s say you are procrastinating on something in life. If you were to close your eyes and ask yourself, “What is it that I’m procrastinating on?” and make an image of it, there are certain submodalities that will allow you to understand why you are feeling a certain way.

For example, most people that are unmotivated to do something will visualize an image that is small, dim, and still. It is no surprise why someone would feel unmotivated, because they are experiencing something in a disempowering way.

Conversely, if you think about something that inspires and excites you, and you close your eyes, NLP finds that there is a different strategy of submodalities that people use in order to create a visual component. Oftentimes, that image will be close to you – it will be big, bright, colourful, and may even be moving. Just by using this process alone, you can change the way you understand something.

I hope I have been able to shed light on how to use neuro linguistic programming to change your life. Overall, my experience with NLP training & techniques has been powerful. If you want to work with me on a deeper level, I have a few resources that I have created that integrate elements of NLP within them.

In my monthly mentoring program, Life Mastery Accelerator, I dive deep into different areas of life. I also have a course called, Morning Ritual Mastery, which teaches you how to re-condition habitual emotions, feelings, and behaviours into your daily life using powerful NLP techniques & principles.

If you are ready to change the way that you communicate with yourself and others, I encourage you to learn more about NLP training & techniques. You are defined by your actions. Choose wisely.

NLP techniques are one of these things.. Neuro-linguistic programming studies the ways our thoughts affect our behavior.. NLP at its core sums up one of Tony’s most powerful beliefs: We can change the way we think , feel and behave by changing our focus – because where focus goes, energy flows.. Because NLP techniques focus on making behavioral changes, they can be used for a variety of different goals.. Picture your body language : confident, determined, comfortable.. Mirroring is an NLP technique that leverages body language to make instant connections and build rapport with anyone.. Incantations are a more powerful version of affirmations, which are one of the more mainstream neuro-linguistic programming techniques.. Incantations take it a step further, changing your physiology as well as your words to create a state of total confidence.. NLP techniques like incantations are an effective way to reprogram your mind and create empowering beliefs .. Most of all, neuro-linguistic programming believes in a growth mindset – that, as Tony says, “We can change our lives.

NLP techniques are extremely effective when skilfully applied. Review this comprehensive list of Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques and more!

The founders of NLP; Bandler and Grinder argue that you can bring the three elements together via therapy to achieve specific goals in life.. NLP provides a set of well-formedness strategies that results should satisfy.. Thirdly, set a sensory-specific goal in the sense that you should be able to say what you would look like, sound like or feel like when you achieve the result, and finally set an ecologically sound goal that will benefit you and not harm others in the process. Several studies show that NLP is helpful for cultivating self-esteem in children with learning difficulties such as dyslexia by providing an intense sense of relaxation and lowering nervousness.. Given that NLP has no threats or adverse side effects, it’s a great strategy that any person can engage in their fight against bad habits like eating unhealthy food or evading workouts.. However, skillful trials had failed to demonstrate any benefit of NLP especially when its activists made more and more uncertain when claims and scientific interest in NLP worn away, though they argue that the lack of experimental support is due to unsatisfactory research testing.. If it works to help adjust subjective experience, then it is not surprising that it wouldn’t benefit those who were not interested in benefiting from NLP.. The recipient of this NLP technique would go from a problem state – to a transitional state – to a desired state.. In the NLP Training series, we will cover all of the following NLP Techniques in greater detail:

What is neuro linguistic programming & what is the relationship to human behaviour? Our guide introduces the topic and defines some critical concepts.

NLP asserts that human behaviour is composed almost entirely of habits and patterns of behaviour.. These are referred to as metaprograms.. There are numerous metaprograms intrinsic to NLP – more than the common five below – and you may see them phrased in different ways across the internet.. Towards and away Internal and external Sameness and difference Proactive and reactive Options and procedures. Towards and away People who have a ‘towards’ program are driven by reaching targets; they tend to move towards gaining pleasure and accomplishing goals.. Your behaviour is driven by your desire to achieve and complete things, which gives you a sense of satisfaction.. Too much feedback may demotivate you; you need space to crack on and accomplish the task your way.. Those with a ‘difference’ program are, oppositely, attuned to the differences in things and are open to trying new things and creating changes.. Recognising differences enables you to understand and explore other possibilities.. You focus on things that are real – things that are concrete and things you know to be true.. Whatever the case, these NLP metaprograms are interesting windows into the human mind and help us understand ourselves.. In addition, because these patterns help us understand other human beings, we can work better with others and gain a stronger understanding of their personal behaviours and preferences.. With NLP, you can gain full control of your mind and identify the ways in which you function most effectively.

For thousands of years people have been moved by storytelling. In NLP, we can use stories to convey important messages and state changes.

NLP Techniques | Stories and Storytelling. We can learn the structure of really influential stories, and we can learn to craft stories with a particular end in mind to support both our own and our listeners’ goals.. Simple State Change Tell a story where the starting state of the characters matches that of your audience.. If the listener is in rapport with you and resonates with the characters in the story, they will experience the states in the right sequence and develop an unconscious strategy for moving from depression to contentment.. Nested Loops Stories within stories are particularly effective for therapeutic change, and especially for delivering embedded commands – although any character in a story can deliver embedded commands.. Open story one Open story two Open story three Add commands Close story three Close story two Close story one. The idea is that when a story is opened and left open without closure and another story is started, a part of our consciousness is waiting for the first story to be closed.. When the stories are closed we’re likely to remember the stories consciously, but the commands will be in our unconscious waiting, like seeds, to grow.. In this article, we examine neuro-linguistic programming, which aims to alter thoughts and behaviors, and has been used for psychological conditions.

Neuro-linguistic programming is a way of changing someone’s thoughts and behaviors to help achieve desired outcomes for them.. This article will explore the theory behind NLP and what evidence there is supporting its practice.. Share on Pinterest NLP can be used for personal development, phobias, and anxiety.. NLP uses perceptual, behavioral, and communication techniques to make it easier for people to change their thoughts and actions.. Despite a lack of empirical evidence to support it, Bandler and Grinder published two books, The Structure of Magic I and II , and NLP took off.. It is founded on the idea that people operate by internal “maps” of the world that they learn through sensory experiences.. Instead, it operates through the conscious use of language to bring about changes in someone’s thoughts and behavior.. An NLP practitioner will identify a person’s PRS and base their therapeutic framework around it.. As such, NLP practitioners use many different techniques that include the following:. Share on Pinterest One of the techniques of NLP is to attempt to remove negative thoughts and feelings linked to a past event.. Share on Pinterest So far, there has not been any rigorous research to prove the effectiveness of NLP.. Some studies have found benefits associated with NLP.. However, a review published in The British Journal of General Practice of 10 available studies on NLP was less favorable.. A paper published in 2009 concluded that after three decades, the theories behind NLP were still not credible, and evidence for its effectiveness was only anecdotal.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a set of skills that reveal the kind of communication that matters most - on the inside and out.

Someone trained in neuro-linguistic programming knows how such programs are structured in the mind and how to access them through conversation so that outdated programs and autopilot behaviors can be changed.. What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming?. The other 93% of communication.. Inner communication is made of images, sounds, and feelings (the VAK Model).. When you become aware of how you are perfectly creating a mindset you don’t want, you can change it.. Transforming the inner communication so that you feel better is the Programming aspect of NLP.. At the University of California, Santa Cruz in early 1970s this enlightened group set out to discover the specific communication patterns that enabled outstanding psychotherapists – including Milton Erickson (famous psychiatrist/hypnotherapist), Virginia Satir (founder of Family Systems Therapy), and Fritz Perls (founder of Gestalt Therapy) to achieve uncommon results with their clients.. All organizations agree to the following levels of NLP training, which can be found at many NLP training centers.. However, this does not mean that one can move from training center to training center, hoping to acquire the next level of training.. NLP Practitioner NLP Practitioner is the first level of NLP training.. NLP Trainer NLP Trainers train NLP Practitioners as well as NLP Master Practitioners.. An NLP Coach might have learned coaching and then added on the NLP Practitioner and NLP Master Tools to their credential.. NLP is a set of models that allow someone to create cognitive behavioral change and build more resourceful states to achieve their goals.. Yes, anyone can learn NLP.. However, as with any neuro-linguistic programming or NLP training, it must fit your personal style and needs.

Some industry gurus portray NLP as a source of miraculous transformation. Critics call it pseudoscience lacking in evidence.

But I do know from experience that NLP techniques are a powerful addition to self-development, many of which I’ve continued to use over 10 years later.. This article will provide a balanced overview of NLP, before sharing the most effective techniques you can try for yourself.. (Denver Post / Getty)By identifying cognitive patterns, expressed through language, NLP claims to be able to replicate behavioural traits of successful people.. Proponents of NLP refer to it as a “map of the mind” which leads to a greater understanding of internal processes, with the opportunity to transform and grow.. Natural language generation, deep learning models, speech recognition and machine translation use this other NLP a great deal within the field of computational linguistics and computer science.. NLP has been identified as pseudoscience due to a lack of scientific evidence for claims made by leading practitioners.. However, there’s no denying that NLP is an extremely effective technique that many people benefit from.. What’s most interesting about NLP being labeled pseudoscience is how closely it resembles Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), a form of therapy that works with language and behaviour, and is viewed as one of the most effective treatments for a range of mental health issues.. This is one of the core NLP techniques for a reason.. I believe applying NLP techniques can be a catalyst to understand the power of thought and attitude in changing your life, one step at a time.. If experimenting with NLP techniques causes the slightest shift in the direction of growth, and provides you with a sense of empowerment and control over your own destiny… Well, I’d say it’s absolutely worth it.

The NLP Phobia Trauma Treatment is illustrated in a step-by-step example of successful therapy using this effective method for visual people.

When Bill came to my office I told him about a therapeutic process from NLP Therapy (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) called the visual/kinesthetic dissociation technique (v/k-d).. Bill remembered his traumatic event as though he was in the scene and it was happening to him.. On a scale that ranks disturbance from 0 (least disturbing) to 10 (most disturbing), Bill rated his anxiety level at a 10.. Next, I asked Bill to step outside of himself and imagine that he was in the projection booth of the theater watching himself in the audience observing the photo of himself on the screen.. It was now time to have Bill review the robbery in his mind but with the important changes that we had just discussed.. As Bill played the scene in his mind, I observe him closely to notice any signs of intense emotion, which could signal that he had reverted to his old way of viewing the scene.. When he got to the end of the scene, Bill reported that he had successfully remained in the disassociated position in the projection booth, watching himself in the audience, seeing the black & white, silent move unfold.. We went over this part of the process several times until Bill was able to rewind the scene quickly enough.. When Bill finished, we repeated both parts of the Phobia, Trauma, and PTSD treatment process several more times.. On this scale, Bill began at a level 8, a very intense and upsetting level.. After repeating the NLP treatment process several times, Bill’s disturbance level had dropped to a level 4.. Bill is beginning to view his traumatic memory in a similar way to his non-traumatic memories.. Steve provides help with the Fear of Flying, Fear of Driving, Fear of Public Speaking, Fear of Insects, Fear of Small Animals, Fear of Elevators, Fear of Water, Fear of Heights, Fear of Bridges, Fear of Public Places, Fear of Medical Procedures, Test Anxiety, Claustrophobia, Panic Attacks, Anxiety Attacks, Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Social Phobia (Social Anxiety).

Neuro-Linguistic Programming – or NLP as it’s commonly known – is fundamentally the study of human excellence.. “Understand how human beings work, not by trying to fix what doesn’t work, but by beginning to look at what we know to be how people function when they function at their best.“ – Ian Mcdermott, ITS Founder. Their interest was on high performing individuals and set upon studying the behaviour and mindset that lead this group of people to achieve great things.. For example, is there a particular smell or song that reminds you of an experience or feeling?. Modelling: Modelling is at the root of NLP, as a principle and as a technique..
